ZModeler Tutorial v2.0 |
Refining The Model
Part one stopped at the beginning of the roof.
After you are done, a roof should look somewhat like this:
After you are done, go to Surface>Normals>Calculate, and watch as the grey parts
transform into white.
Now we'll make the extruded portion
which I have left out in the side of the van.
Here's a close up:
First up, we have to make the sections that are extruded in. It should
look something like this:
Note that it is on the black parts, and not the white parts as shown in the
first picture.
Select the new vertices you have
just made. It should look like this in the top view:
And in the side view:
Move these too a little bit before the line, so it should now look like this:
Now unselect these vertices, and fill in the gap that is still there.
Looks pretty good, but that isn't how the gap runs. It actually is a
sharper angle from the door. Now, we have to start moving the vertices to
the door line:
The shading now is alright, but the
darker shades make the appearance of the car look bad:
How do you fix this? Well you have to detach the faces. So switch to
Faces mode, select the faces with Select>Quadr or Select>Single, and go to
Create>Objects>Detach.
Now that the faces are selected, press the spacebar to enable the SEL function.
Then click the faces. There should now be two objects in your Object List.
Now unselect the one section, switch to Objects mode, go to Surface>Normals>Calculate,
and with the SEL button UNDEPRESSED (press spacebar again), click on the
extruded section and the other part (body).
After you are done this, your 3D view should appear somewhat like this:
Nice and smooth normals!
If you're ready to join the two sections back together, go to Select>Quadr, select the WHOLE model, and go to Create>Objects>UniteSelect with the SEL button depressed.
You should be able to complete the
side and top now with no problems.
Get ready for the Front, Rear, Wheel Well, and other parts in next sections.
Press the Back button on your browser twice to go back to the index.
